- Watering Can What’s more fun for a toddler than dumping water on the ground? A plastic, sturdy watering can is an ideal prop to include in your child-friendly gardening set.
- Wheelbarrows Have your kids carry the leaves and plants back and forth. Along with keeping them active, it can give them a sense of accomplishment knowing they are participating in a meaningful way. Toys R Us sells a few options for small wheelbarrows.
- Shovel + Rake Hand tools do require supervision for children five and under. Depending on the size, these items that can be too large for your child, but if you’re comfortable with it, you can find them at Lowes or other family hardware supply stores.
Ensure your little helper is wearing the proper gear — hat, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes — since gardening requires you to spend plenty of time outdoors in the sun. Start small so they don’t get overwhelmed, preparing the soil on one day before you move on to planting, and so on.
