This winter, save the excuse that it’s “too cold” or “too gloomy” to get up and get your body moving because there are many ways you can stay physically active, whether it be indoors or outdoors!
Here are some ideas to get you moving:
-
Take Up a Leisure Sport
Snowshoeing, skating, skiing / snowboarding, tobogganing, or snowmobiling — most of these activities are great for beginners and it’s never too late to learn if you’re interested in more skilled activities.
Here are a few popular spots for leisure sports located our communities.
- The Briars Resort & Spa at Jackson’s Point is a place to embrace winter off the shores of Lake Simcoe, offering activities such as snowshoeing, ice fishing, cross country skiing, and more. Our Georgina Heights community nearby is now selling.
- The Town of Oakville opens up designated ice rinks in various parks all around town. Admission is free with no registration required, however, there are specified times of operation. Several of these parks are located moments from our sold out community, The Treasury.
- If you’re a fan of tobogganing and near Richmond Hill, less that 20 minutes from our upcoming Legacy Hill community, check out Chapman Park. It is not too steep for the little ones to go down and climb up, and there’s enough room so you don’t have to worry about running into other tobogganers.
-
Walk Around the Mall
If you’re not one for the cold weather, take a few laps around the local mall to get your legs moving and heart pumping. Here are a few local shopping centres within 15 - 30 minutes of our communities:
-
Create a Home Gym
A home gym in the winter has many advantages, including not having to drive in the snow or fighting the new year’s resolution crowd at a fitness centre. And you don’t need to have a complicated setup — perhaps one or two simple pieces of equipment and a fitness mat.
Three things you should consider are size, lighting, and location. Ensure you have enough space to perform the exercises. It’s also beneficial, if possible, to choose an area with lots of natural light, and good ventilation. High intensity workouts can trap a lot of heat and moisture and you want to ensure air is circulating.
Whether you are living in a town or single-detached home, we have some inspiration to help you design a home gym that is right for you. Click here to learn more!
