Are you prepping your home for warmer weather? As we get closer to April, many magazines and blog posts will showcase the top spring home maintenance tasks, and you might find that many of these lists look almost identical. Lucky for you, we have a few spring maintenance tips to consider that tend to be overlooked.
-
Dust Off Fridge Coils
Your refrigerator is constantly working to keep your food fresh, and it is common to forget to check the coils and make sure they’re clear of dust or cobwebs. Having inefficient ventilation will force your fridge to work overtime, shortening its lifespan and causing costly breakdowns.
-
Drain Water from Heater
It’s been a long winter, not just for you but for your heater as well. Once a year, drain a small amount of water out of your HVAC system to lower the risk of a flood. If you are unsure how much water to let out, then speak with a professional.
-
Clean Vents
Most people remember to pull the lint out of their dryer vent, but fewer remember that they need to empty the exterior vent every so often. If left unchecked, the build-up could become a fire hazard, especially when the weather begins to heat up.
-
Test Garage Door
If you have an automatic garage door, check the battery to ensure it doesn’t need to be changed. If it’s not working, ensure you know how to open and close it manually (and lock it while you’re away) until you can get it fixed.
